Gynecomastia Treatment

What is surgery for gynecomastia?

The goal of gynecomastia surgery, also known as male breast reduction surgery or reduction mammaplasty, is to reduce the size of a man's breasts. A breast lift may be necessary when the gynecomastia is severe enough to cause a drooping breast envelope.

Most of the time, an imbalance in the ratio of estrogen to testosterone leads to gynecomastia. Both prescribed and recreational drugs can contribute to this imbalance. Males with excess breast tissue often have an embarrassing physical appearance and are associated with low self-esteem, regardless of the cause.

Male breast reduction surgery has been shown to improve patients' quality of life and has a very high satisfaction rate.

The procedure is suction assisted liposuction, which is carried out with the help of a thin metal cannula. Small, distinct scars remain where the cannula was inserted as a result of this procedure. Breasts without excessive skin laxity and mild to moderate excess fatty tissue over glandular tissue are ideal candidates for this method.

Excision The skin and excess breast tissue are removed directly. Your plastic surgeon will explain the differences in the incisional scar prior to your procedure. When skin removal and repositioning of the nipple-areolar complex are required, this method is ideal for moderate to severe gynecomastia and/or excessive skin laxity.

Combination This method combines the two methods previously mentioned.

The pain during recovery is light to moderate. Prescription and over-the-counter medications effectively manage pain.

Drains may be used by your surgeon; typically, they remain in place for one to two weeks and are removed in the clinic.

For the next two weeks, you should not engage in any form of sexual activity or physical activity that could put pressure or friction on your healing incisions.
